Cleaning Your Hurricane Shutter Systems

Make sure your high quality storm Shutter Systems provide many years of protection and “Peace of Mind” for your most important investment!

Your storm protection products require regular cleaning and maintenance.

Important Tips

  • Make sure you document that scheduled maintenance was performed on all Storm Protection Products.
  • You should accurately document ALL dates of cleaning, types of cleaners and lubricants used.
  • Wash all surfaces and tracks with warm, soapy water with a soft cloth or long-handled soft bristle brush. Rinse with clear water.
  • Do not use harsh detergents or products containing organic solvents, nail polish remover, furniture polish or cleaners containing chlorine bleach. These items could affect the surface appearance.
  • Do not wash with a high-pressure spray. Extreme pressure could crack or destroy the caulking as well as remove paint.

Cleaning Storm Panels

  • You must remove Metal/Clear/Fabric panels after Storm, note installation placement or use a numbered diagram.
  • Loosen all flathead screw type bolts. Lubricate threads and all moving parts with white lithium grease twice a year.
  • Fabric/Clear panels should be cleaned with water and mild soap.
  • Remove all moisture before storing metal, clear or fabric panels with a clean cloth or sponge. Do not wrap panels in plastic or other moisture trapping materials. Moisture discoloration (gray or black stains) is normal for metal and does not affect their performance.
  • To prevent injury/damage, store metal/clear panels flat on wood blocks on the ground in a dry, covered area.
  • Use gloves when handling and place protective padding over all metal panel corners to prevent injury from sharp edges.

Cleaning Accordions

  • Maintenance must be performed twice a year and at least three (3) times a year if installation is within three (3) miles of the coast or salt water.
  • Lubricate rollers/wheels with a silicon-based product. After lubricating, slide shutters open and closed to enhance their operation.
If lock rods are used, lubricate them with the same product.
  • Wash shutters and tracks with warm soapy water and rinse with clean water.
  • Lubricate locking mechanism with a silicon-based product.
